For some people, birth is a gift, and with it comes the fascination of the beginning of a unique story. For others, being born appears as an unasked-for being-thrown into life, as both fate and burden. Likewise, the expectation of death oscillates between fear and hope, between the threat of nothingness, liberation and redemption. Concepts of the end of life are marked by completion, transition into another life, but also by farewell, loss, a mere ending without goal or fulfillment. The book explores the question of what birth and death mean for human existence and how they are ever present in our very lives.
