... denn mit Beloved ist Toni Morrison ein klasse Roman gelungen. Sie erfüllt in diesem Roman die Anforderungen an ein Buch, das die vergessenen Erinnerungen der (schwarzen) Amerikaner in das Bewußtsein der Leser zurückrufen soll. Sie schreibt die Geschichte einer Frau und Mutter, die in der kollektiven Erinnerung als Kindsmörderin vergessen oder missverstanden worden wäre, um die tiefgründige Verzweiflung einer Wahl zwischen Tötung des eigenen Kindes und dessen Auslieferung in die Sklaverei zu (be-)schreiben. Der Roman ermöglicht einer Neu-Erinnerung, da er erzählend auf Erinnerungselemente vieler Amerikaner zurückgreift. Morrison schreibt schwarze Geschichte(n) neu und verdichtet sie in einem begeisternden Roman, der nicht nur in der Figur des Geists der Tochter alte Gespenster auferstehen läßt. Brilliant!
