This book encompasses the long journey of the Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home before she came to Night Vale. The story begins with a quite recent (2011) perspective in the familiar, slightly unhinged narration style of the Woman living with a person namend Craig and meddling in his life. Then, the chapters start alternating with her childhood beginning in 1792 and spanning an adventurous journey up to her 70s. At first, I found the differences in narration styles quite jarring, but after reading about her life leading to transforming her to something not quite human and seeing how both timelines end up expertly woven together by Fink & Cranor, I think it's a fantastic way of showing, not telling. The story took me a couple chapters to warm up to, but after the cunning intrigue, the cycle of revenge and her transformation plus the last 100 pages which were such an intense ride, I'll say this is undoubtedly one of my favorite books now. As a standalone book, having listenend to the Night Vale podcast is not a requirement to read this book, but there are definitely a few easter eggs for those who have.

i have always liked tfowwsliyh but i didnt think she had enough to her for a whole book. and pirates? i am not a big fan of pirate stories and she is a charackter from a desert town! that being said, this book gripped me as if i was 13 again. amazing characterisazion, incredible plot twists and it hurt me in ways i didnt know was possible. i read this a year ago and i still think about it
