After Luther, nothing stayed still. In A History of the Christian Church Since the Reformation, Samuel Cheetham follows the shockwaves that reshaped belief, power, and worship across Europe. Churches change with every century. Written as an ecclesiastical history survey, this church history book maps the protestant reformation aftermath alongside counter-reformation and catholicism, showing how doctrine, politics, and culture intertwined in post-reformation Europe and the story of early modern Christianity, in depth. Cheetham writes with the measured confidence of a Victorian churchman, attentive to both ideas and institutions, and he traces how scripture, education, and state power repeatedly redefined authority within churches, in the pulpit and the parish itself. Clear in outline yet rich in judgement, it serves as a dependable christian history reference for readers seeking orientation amid councils, confessions, and competing national churches, and it offers steady guidance on the emergence of modern christian denominations. For ministers in training and general readers alike, it reads as a seminary church history text and as christian history for students who need firm landmarks and a sense of proportion. Fans of philip schaff church history will recognise the same ambition: to place events in a coherent, teachable sweep. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. A reformation history classic for the thoughtful shelf, it rewards casual browsing and stands up to repeated consultation.
