The Bromance Book Club

Das Buch dreht sich um den Baseballspieler Gavin, der versucht seine Ehe mit Thea zu retten. Gavin ist nach einem Streit mit seiner Frau aus deren gemeinsamen Haus geflohen und zieht sich immer mehr zurück. Das ist der Punkt, an dem der Bromance Book Club in sein Leben tritt. Sie helfen ihn aus seinem Tiefpunkt heraus und nehmen ihn als Mitglied in ihren Club auf. In diesem Club treffen sich angesehene und berühmte Herren und lesen Liebesromane, um ihre Frauen besser zu verstehen. Als Gavin jedoch versucht seine Ehe zu retten, gesteht Thea ihm das sie die Scheidung will. Jetzt ist der Buchclub mehr denn je gefragt das abzuwenden und die Beiden wieder zusammen zu bringen. Das Buch ist abwechselnd aus der Sicht von Gavin und Thea geschrieben. Wobei ich gerade zu Beginn die Kapitel aus Gavins Sicht viel lieber gelesen habe als die aus Theas Sicht. Ich konnte mich nicht unbedingt in sie hineinversetzen und sie ging mir tatsächlich eher auf die Nerven als das ich mit ihr mitfühlen konnte. Zum Glück hat sich dieses Gefühl im Laufe des Buches gebessert. Mir kam es nämlich so vor als würde sie das ganze kalt lassen und es lag nur an Gavin, der versuchte die Ehe zu retten. Die Kommunikation sollte ja nicht nur von ihm ausgehen, gerade in einer langjährigen Beziehung sollte jeder dem anderen mitteilen können, wenn etwas nicht stimmt. Gavin habe ich von Anfang an gemocht. Auch er hatte seine Fehler, die ihn aber nicht weniger sympathisch gemacht hatten. Die Tatsache das er stottert hat ihn da nur umso liebenswerter gemacht. Auch mochte ich seine Sticheleien mit Mack richtig gerne und habe die mit am liebsten gelesen. Die Zwillinge der Beiden fand ich richtig niedlich, mit Theas Schwester konnte ich nicht richtig warm werden und ich hoffe, dass mir der zweite Band aus ihrer Sicht trotzdem gefällt, denn Mack mochte ich wirklich gerne und würde gerne mehr über ihn erfahren. Die Idee des Buches an sich finde ich richtig gut und ist auch etwas das man so noch nicht gelesen hat. Spaß hatte ich beim Lesen, auch wenn der Funke nicht zu 100 Prozent übergesprungen ist. Eine wirklich süße Liebesgeschichte.

I read it in one sitting But it was frustrating at times too and just little bit predictable which is of course a thing in romance novels and why I don't read many of those.. But yeah it was fun and I enjoyed it, will defo read the second book too.. :)

Well that was enjoyable! The premise of The Bromance Book Club intrigued me from the very beginning but for some reason it still took me quite some time to pick this up. However, this turned out to be a good thing because this was exactly the kind of heartwarming story I needed right now. “You guys read romance novels? We call them manuals.” This is the story of a group of men who read and discuss romance novels in order to better understand the women in their lives. If you think this sounds hilarious, you’re right. It is. It’s also a refreshing depiction of male friendships with an emphasis on caring for, listening to, and helping each other. I’m lucky enough to live with a man who openly values these aspects in his male friends, but male friendships are still frequently depicted as fairly shallow emotion-wise in contemporary culture. So, kudos for that! "'All spouses become strangers to each other at some point in a marriage,' Del said. 'All human beings are a work in progress, and we don’t all change at the same pace. Who knows how many people have gotten divorced simply because they failed to recognize that what they thought were insurmountable problems were actually just temporary phases?'" This is the story of Gavin and Thea. A couple who have grown apart while sleeping next to each other. We all know this happens. It’s nothing extraordinary, nothing unheard of, nothing unique, but it sure as hell must be painful and it’s not much of a topic in popular romantic comedies. (Not really surprising though, growing apart hardly is a ha-ha kinda topic). At the beginning of the novel Thea and Gavin’s relationship and sex life have deteriorated to the point that Thea asks for a divorce. So yeah, things pretty much suck for Gavin. With the help of the book club, he and his friends devise strategies to win her back because one thing Gavin realized, he’s certainly not going down without a fight. With The Bromance Book Club Lyssa Kay delivers a heartwarming, funny story about two people who have lost each other in the jungle of the quotidian. It’s a story about sacrifice and the toll it takes, about how everyone has baggage and how scary it can be to face up to your partner’s baggage as well as your own. Yes, this is a romantic comedy. No, this is not the most profound discussion of married life at a crossroads. No, this will probably not change your life. But this made me laugh out loud, this made me cry happy tears and this made me smile so damn much. I rooted for Thea & Gavin from the beginning, but what’s even more lovely, I rooted for Thea and I rooted for Gavin. I wanted them to grow as a couple and as two separate characters each with their own complicated personalities. What a wonderful thing to happen while reading a love story. Romances rarely receive 5 stars from me, so four it is, but in terms of romantic comedies it certainly is one of the best and I would highly recommend this!
