Where did Pennsylvania's frontier forts stand? In valleys, on ridges, beside vanished roads - the places that often decided lives. Maps, names, and hard evidence. Report of the Commission to locate the site of the frontier forts of Pennsylvania (Volume I) is a historical commission report that reads like a hunt: a government survey publication assembling testimony, maps, land records, and on-the-ground observations to pin down fort site identification for Pennsylvania frontier forts across the province. For readers drawn to colonial Pennsylvania history and American frontier military history, it offers the drama of boundaries without theatrics, and the satisfaction of watching uncertainty narrowed to coordinates and descriptions. It is also a local history reference of use, tracing colonial fort locations shaped by the French and Indian War and the pressures of settlement. Its findings have informed county histories, museum interpretation, and fieldwork, making it a cornerstone for anyone tracing the geography of the early republic in western Pennsylvania. More than an antiquarian curiosity, this volume belongs in any academic history collection and on the shelf of serious amateurs: it links documentary research to early American archaeology, showing how public history is built from verifiable clues. Family historians will value it as a genealogy research reference, especially when a place-name or tradition needs confirmation against the record. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
