Step into Maine before it was certain. History, unfiltered, direct, and alive. Documentary History of the State of Maine (Volume XIII), containing the Baxter manuscripts, is a primary source anthology drawn from a formidable historical archives collection. James Phinney Baxter assembles Baxter manuscripts transcripts and related Maine colonial records that track the pressures, bargains, and beliefs of the colonial New England era. These pages carry the cadence of administration and dispute, revealing how a province became a state. Dip in at random for vivid fragments, or follow a thread with pencil in hand. The result is a documentary history volume that rewards slow browsing as much as targeted searching, whether your interest is early Maine history, New England local history, or the wider sweep of American colonial documents. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. As an academic history sourcebook, it offers a grounded route into how communities governed, traded, worshipped, and argued, preserving voices that later narratives smooth away. For family historians, it also serves as a durable genealogy research reference, connecting places, names, and decisions across generations. Part of the state historical society records tradition, Baxter's work stands as a landmark of editorial scholarship and civic memory, a book to consult, to return to, and to keep. Ideal for students, museum lovers, and collectors of foundational New England editions at home.
