An architect of victory and of a nation, Rufus Putnam stands at the crossroads of war and frontier. Listen to a soldier's voice. In The Memoirs of Rufus Putnam and Certain Official Papers and Correspondence, edited by Miss Rowena Buell, a distinguished American Revolution officer recounts campaigns, councils, and decisions that shaped eighteenth century America, while his letters and documents unfold as revolutionary war primary sources of rare immediacy. Part revolutionary war memoir, part historical military memoir, this volume gathers personal narrative with primary source correspondence that follows Putnam from the struggle for independence into the Northwest Territory settlement and the harsh realities of the early Ohio frontier and early American West. Long regarded by scholars as the foundational Rufus Putnam memoirs, these pages illuminate strategy, politics, land policy, and nation-building in a voice rooted in experience, making the book an invaluable historians reference edition and a rewarding read for anyone drawn to the lived texture of the past. Frequently cited in academic research collection catalogues, it offers one of the clearest windows into how officers, surveyors, and settlers understood their world at the edge of empire. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure, this definitive presentation of revolutionary war memoir and correspondence belongs on the shelf of every serious library of early America.
