To Be Taught, If Fortunate

Becky Chambers is one of science fiction's most skilled authors to emerge in recent years. With incredible storytelling and characters that feel very much real, Chambers entices to keep on reading. However, who is looking for a definitive resolve to the story will not find it here. That is not the point of this book. It is more of a philosophical piece trying to start conversation on what importance we place on science and who should be able to gain from its discoveries. As is put on the books first page: "Please Read This."

Chamber's newest novella is just on par with her other work. Even though it's not a part of the wayfarer universe, we are once again treated to a fantastic space opera. This time maybe a tad more philosophical and at the same time with a more scientific approach than what we're used to.

I have only read two books by this author and "To be taught, if fortunate" was the good one. Becky Chambers tends to give the character development a lot of emphasis. In "To be taught, if fortunate" this works because it mixes well with the story. However, if this is the first book by this authors you read, then you might be disappointed with her other books.
