Auch wenn es nicht immer leicht war sich mit dem schwierigen Thema auseinanderzusetzen, hat das Buch mich in seinen Bann gezogen und auch nicht mehr losgelassen. Ein wichtiges Thema, dass gegen Ende auch gut aufgearbeitet wird. Mit den "Kräften" und dem Verlauf des Buches hatte ich nicht gerechnet, aber es nach einem kurzen Eingewöhnungsmoment, sehr geschätzt und lieben gelernt. Nicht mein letztes Buch von diesem Autor!

This was not always easy to read, because Matt is already knee-deep into his eating disorder when the book begins and has some really dark thoughts and feelings. I really liked, that this book is about a boy, from a boys perspective, because eating disorders are still stigmatized as a girls-disease and I think Sam Miller added much needed real tropes. Matt is gay and gets bullied because of it, he feels ashamed and uses his eating disorder as an escape from reality. Queer people are more likely to develop Ed's and other mental illnesses than other teenagers, so I think it's great that Miller describes this in detail. Matt thinks he has superpowers because of his ED and this warped perception or reality (the reader can decide) he develops shows the concequences of starving for your brain. Even though Matt tries to rationalize and romanticize his eating disorder, it is clear throughout the book, that it's only harming him. I personally could have done without the love story/love interest, because Matt's story in itself was powerful enough, but it doesn't disrupt the story. I think especially for young teenage boys, who struggle with ED and/or being queer, or friends or family of them, this story is very insightful.
