Gesucht ist eine Deutung Platons, die vor seiner Kritik der Schrift im ¿Phaidros¿ Bestand haben kann. Platons eigene Skepsis dem Schreiben gegenüber abwerten oder in ihr Gegenteil verkehren zu wollen, wie es vielfach noch versucht wird, kann keinen Weg zum Verständnis des Schriftstellers Platon eröffnen. Nur wenn man seine Einschätzung des richtigen Verhältnisses von schriftlichem und mündlichem Philosophieren ernst nimmt, kann man Technik und Wirkungsabsicht der Dialoge adäquat erfassen. - Szlezák liefert eine Bestandsaufnahme der formalen Merkmale der Dialoge und eine Beschreibung ihrer dramatischen Technik mit ihren Konstanten und Variablen der Charakterzeichnung und Handlungsführung. Das erarbeitete Gerüst wird dann zurückbezogen auf das Bild des Philosophen und auf Platons Vorstellung von philosophischer Erkenntnisvermittlung. Eine solche Analyse, die sich am Text selbst orientiert und dessen Struktur wie Inhalt gleichermaßen berücksichtigt, zeigt, daß die Dialoge nicht als philosophisch autarke Werke konzipiert sind, sondern konsistent über sich hinausweisen in Richtung auf eine Theorie der Prinzipien.
The author is looking for an interpretation of Plato which is enduring in view of Platös critique of writing in ¿Phaedrus¿. Denigrating Platös own denigration of writing or wanting to change it into its opposite, as is still being attempted, is not the way to understanding Plato as an author. Only if we take his assessment of the correct ratio between written and oral philosophizing seriously can we reach an adequate understanding of the technique and aims of the dialogues. Against all modern prejudices and opposition, today¿s reader has to accept Platös perspective. In a first step, the author provides a survey of the formal characteristics of the dialogues and a description of their dramatic technique with their constants and variables of character portrayals and plot. The framework he establishes is then applied to the image of the philosopher or dialectician and to Platons concept of imparting philosophical knowledge.
