4.75 stars // I was so anxious about reading this book because a friend whose taste in books I share most of the time didn’t like it that much. So, I put it off for so long. But since it’s the only orange book I own I took it into the rainbow challenge, and I’m so glad I did! I’d almost forgotten just how much I love Laini Taylor’s dreamy and poetic style of writing and the way she tells a story. It just fit the storyline so well. Muse of Nightmares (MoN) is the sequel to Strange the Dreamer (StD) and we now get quite a bit of a backstory and a few answers to some of the questions that arose in the first book. I enjoyed the story about Nova & Kora, as they tell some of the backstory in such a bittersweet way. Gotta love sisterly love even when it all turns sideways. I was equally enjoying the depth some of the other characters were getting – Minya in particular. As much as I can’t relate to her reaction (though, who knows how I would cope in a similar situation) I do understand why she did what she did, and it makes her so authentic. The two things that I would have liked to be different are: 1) Some details and descriptions were a bit repetitive. I don’t particulary think that you would be able to understand MoN without having read StD, so some of the infos from book one could have been left out of MoN, as you would know because you read StD before (hope this makes sense ). 2) I really would have liked to have more information on Skathis & Co. Why they did what they did. How it came to be, etc. Although, maybe the open end of MoN points to a third book – maybe? If not then that’s information I would have liked to know. Still, this was a great book! I would recommend it. Even only for the wonderful style of writing!! Ps: One of the two most favourite quotes «Being alive includes aches, as well as pleasure.»
