The Idiot

Ich habe lange nicht mehr so ein tolles Buch gelesen. Da ich auch Studentin bin, fühle ich mit Selin und ihre Freund*innen sind einfach richtig witzig und toll.

Coming-of-age story that isn’t actually one. Really smart and demanding book with a protagonist you love and hate at the same time. The author teaches you how to find your place in this world, how to grow up, to learn from your mistakes (or not) and making your own decisions.

This is a weird book - it is long but you can scan through the pages without missing much, it is about a love story but nothing really happens between the two, it packs a lot of academic and cultural life and wisdom but you might miss it if you haven't gone through something similar. And first and foremost, the characters seem to be intelligent but they might also be just dumb, I can't decide. I would recommend this book to everyone who is either an awkward genius themselves or knows and has dealt with a person like this. Bonus point if the reader is or has experience with Hungarian people. I happen to tick those boxes and could therefore relate to many passages, weird behaviours and conversations. At the same time, it feels somewhat awkward reading this book and I don't believe it will hit many nerves. Leaves me a bit at a loss.

I had high hopes for this one but it was easily the most boring book I have read this year, so far. The main character and her love interest literally gave me nothing and it's giving "I am nothing without my crush" it's so embarrassing.
