In Mindhunter John Douglas presents detailed information about his work as a profiler with the FBI. His work and efforts have resulted in many convictions. The methods he has invented have changed the way crime is solved until today. This book is not only about Douglas’s career with the bureau but also about various cases he encountered during all those years. Douglas was convinced early on that there is more than victimology and forensic evidence, comprehending what offenders think is vital. His knowledge is valued throughout the police force. I know Mindhunter from the same named series on TV. To find more background information about his investigative work, I thought it useful to read the book too. Though many parts are gruesome, the story reads like a crime novel only they are genuine cases, narrated very straightforwardly. What interested me the most was the scientific background, how John Douglas approached a new case, and the encounter with serial killers. I especially liked the explanation, straightforward and easy to understand. I was impressed by his way of thinking, how he reads an offender’s mind is unique. The world definitely needs more John Douglas. I recommend this book to everyone interested in True Crime and innovative ways of crime solving. A fast-paced read with interesting insights.
