Beartown

Ein unglaublich emotionaler Roman. Backman konnte mit dieser Geschichte zeigen, was es bedeutet Mensch zu sein. Ich hätte nicht erwartet, dass eine Geschichte über eine Kleinstadt und Hockey mich so mitreißen würde.

Recommend this to everyone who appreciates a good character driven story. Backman does not fail to make you feel like being a member of the small community of Beartown. You witness how the different people of Beartown deal with themes like trauma, loss, racism, homophobia, misogyny - how they eventually learn to find their place in a community that values tradition and is trying nothing but to survive in the midst of the wilderness. The love between certain characters is so beautifully conveyed that it moved me to tears. As in "A Man Called Ove" the focus is on a deeper connection between them - on gratitude, loyalty, friendship and appreciation. Backman is an author who does not give you a superficial story but rather a story that feels real, authentic and reflects the lives of so many. I love all of Backman's works - this one especially.
