Northanger Abbey always was my least favorite of the Jane Austen novels. But the transfer to the present time is smoothly and you get right into it. Cat is less naive than in the original story and that brings her closer to my heart than she has been before. Jane Austen's least known novel reaches unexpected dimensions and gains so much through Val McDermids retelling.
