Kellen is close to facing his magician’s trials. However, his magic is weak and he barely stands a chance. So, being who he is, he decides to make his duel a con-game. A traveller called Ferius Parfax and an ancient curse turn Kellen’s world upside down within seconds. And through them, Kellen learns a lot about himself and the world surrounding him. The Spellslinger series has one of my favourite fantasy worlds. There’s conflict and peace, religion, science, everything one could think of. The world is truly unique, well thought-out and wider than one would imagine looking at the small map in the book. The characters too have captivated my heart within a few pages. Especially Reichis, the always angry Squirrel Cat has managed to sneak his way into my heart. They all are vastly different and cover all kinds of people from different backgrounds, ages, etc. It is quite nice to see a young adult novel not focused on romance but rather magic and the world’s machinations. Spellslinger is a great fantasy series for young adults and adults alike. It has fantastic world-building, lovable characters (though some are more on the hateable side) and many amazing twists and turns in the road ahead of Kellen. I can absolutely recommend this book for everyone looking for a fun, fast-paced read that will leave them craving more!
