I don't know how she did it, but Emma Cline somehow managed to tell the brutal Charles Manson cult story while maintaining a comforting, fun and even nostalgic atmosphere throughout the whole book. It's such a cool and original idea to write about the Manson drama from the perspective of a young girl falling in love with an older girl from the cult instead of the cult leader. Also, the Southern Californian desert setting makes for a perfect, thrilling summer reading. Enjoy!

Die Geschichte zieht einen sofort in den Bann, ich interessiere mich an sich sehr für die 60er/70er und habe mich gefreut ein Buch über diese Zeit zu lesen. Evie war mir von Anfang an sympathisch, man hat gemerkt das sie ein unsicherer Teenager war, der sich irgendwo Liebe und Akzeptanz gewünscht hat.
Die verschiedenen Charaktere haben alle sehr zur Story gepasst, den Aspekt, dass es an der Manson family inspiriert wurde; finde ich sehr interessant. Der Schreibstil hat mir wirklich sehr gefallen, Cline kann die Geschichte wirklich lebendig gestalten und ich hatte die ganze Zeit das Gefühl, bei allem dabeigewesen zu sein. Es gab keine Passagen die sich meiner Meinung nach gezogen haben, die Charaktere hatten alle eine sehr ausgearbeitete Persönlichkeit und auch die kleinen Verweise auf andere Dinge aus der Zeit, haben mir sehr gefallen.
Auch der Schreibstil, dass es aus Evie’s Erinnerungen heraus geschildert wird, hat mir sehr gefallen.
Insgesamt kann ich das Buch nur jedem empfehlen.
