Wintersong

The idea of an Erlkönig adaption caught me immediately. The cover is beyond beautiful with the hint of snowfall and the rose in the snow globe. For me the story started a little dull, it took me quit a while to adjust to the setting. It did get better but not really good enough. The storyline between Elisabeth and the goblin king does have some changes in it but they are not necessarily forward. As you can guess the are some elements of love but for me, they never worked. I coulnd't figure out what on earth their relationship is based on. There is only mistrust and egoism on both sides. The setting was often confusing, because suddenly random changes appeared and I got a little lost. It's by no means a terrible book -the german version might work better for this idea-, but when I finished it, I had zero intentions to continue with the second part Shadowsong after I dragged myself through this. Maybe someday.
