Palace of Treason - Der Kreml! Putin, die Amerikaner, die Russen, dazwischen ein Haufen Spione - man erwartet fast das alte Lied und mal ehrlich, es gibt schon zu viele Spionageromane zu dem Thema.
Aber keinen, wie den hier!
Jason Matthews ist ein großartiger Erzähler und hat eine ganz besondere Gabe den im TV so gern geschönten, "glamourösen" Alltag eines Spions auf die Straße zu holen. Hier kämpfen die einzelnen Spieler für ein großes Ganzes und doch nicht selten allein, auf der Flucht, gehetzt auf unbekannten Gassen mit einem Blick über die Schulter. Der Gegenspieler, in dem Fall personifiziert durch den Russen Zyuganov, ist ein realer Alptraum und Matthews Frauen sind der Hammer! Allen voran die russische Spionin Dominika Egorova, die gleich an mehreren Fronten kämpft und die auf die ersten Blick zu langen 500 Seiten wie im Flug vorbeigehen lässt. Allesamt Beeindruckende, unverwechelbare Charaktere mit nachvollziehbaren Motivationen und absolut überzeugender Agenda!
Speziell: Vladimir Putin hat in dem Roman einen (nicht einmal kleinen) Auftritt und scheint mir übermäßig gut getroffen. Respekt an den Autor, der hier zudem mit einer über 30-jährigen Erfahrung im Dienst der CIA (zusammen mit seiner Frau) sicher die ein oder andere wahre Begebenheit verarbeitet.
Vorgängerroman: Red Sparrow. Palace of Treason lässt sich aber problemlos ohne den Vorgänger genießen.
