Beautiful Disaster A Novel

Ok guys, I get that art is something objective BUT this book is the worst one I have read so far. I hate to abort reading in the middle of the book, but I just couldn’t help it. I gave it a second try but I stopped 70 pages before the end. This book is pure chaos. The style of writing is rather poorly. The story doesn’t follow a thread and nothing really makes sense to me. The cuts at the ends of the chapters are always so inexpedient. The relationship is a up and down. It almost seems like the author didn’t know herself what she wanted for them. I honestly want my 15€ back I payed for this bullshit. Now I want to justify my statement: Firstly, on the backside of the book, Abby is described as a “good” girl who doesn’t drink. This was the first thing that set me off. Throughout the whole book she kind of never really turned down an offer to drink. Why mentioning something that doesn’t add up to the story? About the protagonists and the story: In my opinion, the protagonists are described rather shallow. As a reader I feel like I didn’t get the chance to get to know them well. Besides that the relationship between them is quite toxic and chaotic. I think Travis is not “admirable” at all. The way he is described really makes me sick, I just see no way in romanticizing someone like that. Aside from his reputation aka. The person who’s fucked the complete female population at university and is known as a brutal boxer who is feared due to his bad temper, he just wants her, because she turned him down the first time he attempted to flirt with her. Meanwhile, she doesn’t want to be like all the other girls but falls for him the second she sees him. I can’t comment on everything obviously however there were a few moments, that really disturbed me therefore I wanted to mention it: For Abbys birthday Travis gifted her a dog. She lives at a dorm, she just started university, they were not a couple at this time. The dog that actually belongs to Abby now stays at his place and she can visit him anytime. Throughout the book this dog is mentioned like three more times. Why couldn’t he buy a necklace or something like that? Then there was Thanksgiving. She was invited when they were a couple. They broke up before but she celebrated with Travis family anyway because he asked her to cook for them since his mother died. So the scene is basically Abby cooking in the kitchen, the father calling her “sis” (thats so weird idk) and him wanting her back.
