Space Wars

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

"This Shattered World" is the second novel in the "Starbound" trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. Avon is a relatively new terraformed planet that hasn't passed review yet. On top of its too slow transformation the people inhabiting the planet are at war. On one side there are soldiers who try to keep order and discipline and on the other side there are rebels who just want to have access to schools and hospitals to educate their children and tend to their sick. Jubilee Chace and Flynn Cormac are on different sides of that war respectively, but when their paths cross they have to admit that their hopes for the planet and co-existing of the population aren't that different. Will they be able to overcome their differences and end the fighting? While "These Broken Stars" followed Lilac and Tarver who crashed on an uninhabited planet, there are totally different protagonists in this novel, so it really isn't that important to read the trilogy in the right order. This book is a really interesting read and it's exciting to see how things unfold and develop. Of course, the plot lines of "This Shattered World" and its predecessor are tied together, but I can't say how without giving too much away. The protagonists in this book, again, are very relatable characters which makes it all the more fun to read. For me, "This Shattered World" wasn't quite as gripping as "These Broken Stars", but I still very much enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the conclusion to the trilogy. I recommend this book to fans of the science fiction genre aged 14 and up.
