Es gibt Bücher, welche einfach in der Bildung nicht fehlen dürfen. 'Flow' vom Mihaly Csikszentmihaly is so eines, Poor Charlie's Almanack vom Charles T. Munger (der Kumpel vom Warren Buffet) ebenso. Edward Wilson's Consilience is noch so ein. Wilson ist Biologe. Er versucht zu zeigen, dass die Welt vom ganz gross (das All) bis ganz klein (Nano Niveau) bestimmt wird von den gleichen Naturgesetze. Und das der Mensch all seine Kenntnisse zusammen legen muss um die Welt zu verstehen und - in den letzte dreissig Seiten des Buches - seine Welt zu retten. Er gibt an, dass die Humaniora (Soziologie, Psychologie, Wirtschaft) diese Kenntnisse und Verpflichtung bis jetzt völlig verfehlt haben. Das Buch wurde in 1998 geschrieben, aber ist noch immer aktuell. Die klimatologische Vorhersagen, zu welchen Wilson sich traut, waren damals bestimmt zu bezeichnen als alarmistisch, aber wer eine gute Zeitung lest (NZZ, FAZ) und nicht Donald Trump heisst, erkennt was wir die letzten Jahre mondial erlebt haben.
