Death never comes easy

Bewertung am 22.02.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 1885101

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

When his wife passes away, Ove gets a few days off work. When he returns, he's laid off, which is quite fortunate. Now Ove can get his affairs in order and follow his wife. He plans it out neatly, but it would seem that in his street, dying in peace is harder than expected. This book is a wonderfully sweet and caring story about an old man trying to kill himself and the people and circumstances that keep him from it. It is also a tale about a man who has lost hope in people but still cares for them very deeply. Ove, as a character, is very funny (although he would never agree with this) and between the lines truly loving. As the narrator, Ove's view of the world around him is refreshing and provides little insights that let one into the lives of the people around him. This story was a calm and enjoyable but also sad story. I would recommend this to people who like Fredrik Backman already and anyone in need of an uplifting, funny story. Importantly, the story does centre around someone who repeatedly attempts suicide, so this should be something a reader can handle.

Feel Good Novel

Great novel, it really explores Ove and his life and how he became who he is. The writing is flowing well and it's easy to read. Definitely recommend as a feel good read with some philosophical aspects.
