Peter Benchley erzählt in dem Roman die Geschichte eines jungen Mädchens und seiner Beziehung zum Meer und zeigt gleichzeitig, wie empfindlich der Lebensraum Ozean ist. In beeindruckenden Bildern beschreibt er dabei den Konflikt zwischen dem Respekt für das Meer auf der einen Seite und der gnadenlosen Ausbeutung für kurzfristigen Profit auf der anderen. Auch wenn der Roman schon 1982 zum ersten Mal verlegt wurde, hat er nichts an Aktualität eingebüßt.
Eine absolute Empfehlung für jeden, der fesselnde Geschichten vom Meer liebt.
