John Perry, Jahrgang 1943, ist Professor emeritus für Philosophie an der amerikanischen Stanford University. Für sein wissenschaftliches Werk zur Sprachphilosophie und zur Theorie des Bewusstseins wurde er u. a. mit dem deutschen Humboldt-Preis ausgezeichnet. Er co-moderiert ein philosophisches Radioprogramm und beschäftigt sich seit Jahren mit der Kunst des gezielten Aufschiebens. Dafür erhielt er 2011 den Ig-Nobelpreis (den renommierten satirischen Preis der Harvard University für unnütze, skurrile aber geistreiche wissenschaftliche Arbeiten).
