Wieder bekam ich ein Buch, dass ich über das Bloggerportal von Randomhouse angefragt habe und mir vom Verlag freundlicherweise zur Verfügung gestellt wurde. Dafür möchte ich mich bedanken und betonen, dass meine Meinung dadurch nicht beeinflusst wurde.
Das Thema Feminismus und Gleichberechtigung rückt immer mehr in den Fokus und es gibt mittlerweile viele Bücher, die sich mit dem Thema auseinander setzen. Darum wollte ich dieses Buch auch lesen. Und weil die Autorin fast in meinem Alter ist und ich mich sicher mehr mit ihr identifizieren kann als z. B. mit jüngeren Frauen, die genau so viel zum Thema zu sagen haben.
Roxane Gay schreibt für verschiedene Zeitschriften Texte zum Thema Feminismus und hat diese Texte nun in einem Buch zusammen gefasst. Man merkt, dass sie zu verschiedenen Zeiten entstanden, da die Autorin häufig auf aktuelles Zeitgeschehen und gesellschaftsrelevante Themen eingeht. Sie schildert vieles aus ihrer Sicht und lässt auch eigene, häufig auch sehr persönliche und schmerzhafte Erfahrungen dabei in die Essays einfließen. So trifft sie vielleicht nicht die Meinung des Lesers, aber öffnet den Blick auf Frauenthemen auf eine berührende und eindringliche Weise.
Mir gefällt ihr Schreibstil, wenn ich auch, besonders anfangs, manches Fremdwort nicht verstanden habe, dass die Literaturprofessorin verwendet. Die meisten Texte sind aber leicht verständlich und flüssig lesbar geschrieben, so dass man keine Probleme hat, den Sinn zu erfassen und ihren Worten zu folgen.
Roxane Gay öffnet den Blick hauptsächlich auf die amerikanischen Hintergründe und die Rolle der Frauen, besonders der afroamerikanischen Gesellschaft in den USA. Es ist ein interessantes Buch, dass ich jedem empfehlen möchte, der sich für die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter in der heutigen Zeit interessiert.
