'He has quite a unique power for making theology an attractive, exciting and fascinating quest.' Times Literary Supplement 'Lewis seeks in Mere Christianity to help us see religion with fresh eyes, as a radical faith whose adherents might be likened to an underground group gathering in a war zone, a place where evil seems to have the upper hand, to hear messages of hope from the other side.' Kathleen Norris

What is Christianity really about?

Friederike Amann aus Bürs am 27.02.2011

Bewertungsnummer: 706136

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

C. S. Lewis, a former atheist, talks about Christianity by means of logical and reasonable arguments in four different books. Book one is about the law of the human nature. Lewis states that behind the objective moral law that is inside all humans and which we are all not completely following there is a greater Something or Someone for it has to be declared by something or someone outside the law. He continues in book two with explaining who Christians say this Something or Someone is – the God of Christianity who alone gives meaning and who alone is good; and this goodness leads us to repentance. The practical application is the main theme of book three; Lewis writes about morality in different aspects, the seven virtues and some other topics like Christian marriage. He concludes with the more theoretical, based on theology, book four, which is about the Trinity, what the roles of God the Father, the Son and the Spirit are, finishing up with what it means that God lives in me and through me, that I live with Him and that He is transforming me in order to make me perfect. I enjoyed reading this book. While it’s not that easy to read and understand, it’s definitely worth it. Lewis writes in a very logical way – he gives arguments and reasons for what he states, giving examples and sharing little stories. He challenged me a lot through his writings, to think about what I believe and really deal with it. “Mere Christianity” is a book for people who want to deal honestly with questions of life and faith.
