"Cinder" is the first book of "The Lunar Chronicles" and a great start to a series that will leave you asking for more. Cinder isn't your average kind of girl. As if being a teenage mechanic weren't enough to turn her into a social outcast, she also happens to be a cyborg - which doesn't help at all. Not being wanted by her stepmother and -sister Cinder doesn't exactly lead an easy life. When meeting the young prince of the Eastern Commonwealth things seem to look up for a while, but her joy is short-lived when she suddenly gets blamed for her sister's disease and subsequently is sold off as a guinea pig to a research center. But there she gets to know herself better than she ever dreamed of... Take a cyborg, some androids and extraterrestrials, add a horrendous disease and throw in a handsome prince for good measure and you'll get the captivating and unique story that is "Cinder". I very much enjoyed reading this new twist on the beloved tale "Cinderella" and am eager to dive into the second book in this series to see how things unfold. I highly recommend this book to teenagers aged 14.

Cinder ist die beste Mechanikerin in New Beijing...und sie ist ein Cyborg. Als sie mit ihrer Stiefschwester auf einem Schrottplatz nach Teilen sucht ahnt sie nicht in welche Schwierigkeiten sie das bringen wird. Denn im ganzen Land geht eine tödliche Krankheit umher und ausgerechnet ihre Stiefschwester erkrankt daran. Ihre Stiefmutter gibt ihr daran die Schuld und meldet sie als "Versuchkaninchen" im Labor des Königs an damit endlich ein Gegenmittel gefunden werden kann. Und als wäre das nicht genug, gibt es auch noch den gutaussehenden Kai, der zufällig der Prinz ist und dringend ihre Hilfe braucht! Ein super spannendes Buch für Jugendliche und auch auf englisch gut verständlich. Ich freue mich schon auf die Fortsetzung die wohl 2013 kommen soll! Ich bin begeistert! :D

Futuristic Fairytale Retelling with so many Twists

A beautifully fresh interpretation of the classic fairytales on a NEW LEVEL OF AWESOME. The setting in not only a slightly post-apocalyptic SciFi-future but also set in New Beijing with deep rooted Asian influences, customs and culture beautifully depicted and it's just wonderful. Cinder being a cyborg-mechanic and having to help prince Kai with his android, Iko (officially the BEST character) is amazing but this book has so much more! The emotions that Marissa Meyer evokes in her readers are breathtaking. Betrayal on so many levels that repeatedly threaten to break Cinder's convictions. Grieve and loss of loved ones. The certainty to know what needs to be done. What is the right thing to do - no matter the personal consequences. Grade A+ storytelling. Just exquisite. Also, the letumosis storyline has taken on a new level of an unsettling sense of real danger as we ourselves have now experienced a global pandemic of the respiratory kind, reader discretion is advised.

Cinder is the first book of the Lunar Chroncles and offers lots of action and the perfect mixture of science fiction and fairytale which makes it a real page turner. Marissa Meyer describes this dystopic world and it's characters pretty detailed and you just can't stop reading.
