Tom Clancy’s first try and chronological his fourth book of the Jack Ryan series. This time the author takes the reader aboard a Russian submarine, with a crew ready to accomplish their given mission. Not everything goes as planned, especially when they get detected by the Americans, something they intended to omit. With the secret mission in jeopardy, the Russians use their tactical education to escape. It is only a matter of time until the Americans find her, and Russia wants her back even if they have to start a war with their enemy.
I read the Jack Ryan series in chronological order, something I usually do with book series. Nothing gives a reader more pleasure than diving into a story, enjoying the flow and seeing how the characters develop. In this novel I came close to stopping reading it, the large amount of characters is confusing and difficult to follow. In my opinion, it takes a tediously long time until the story takes up the pace, and the reader is rewarded with an end full of suspense, and authenticity. Truly written by a master of deception, who manages to create an unexpected ending. I’m glad that I endured the start, I would have missed such a great conclusion.
This gives hide and seeks a completely new meaning. Everyone interested in naval operations would enjoy this book.
