Hardboiled stories from all six issues of the ultra-rare pulp magazine, Prison Stories (1930-31), complete and uncensored. During Prohibition, America's overcrowded prisons dominated the headlines with stories of condemned racketeers, escape attempts, grisly executions, massive riots, and fiery conflagrations. Celebrated publisher Harold Hersey turned the controversies into grist for a monthly magazine of brutal fiction. Sociopathic cons, snitches, corrupt guards, devious wardens; shivs, machine guns and tear gas . . . it's all here. Features include: original illustrations; cover gallery; the startling history of Prison Stories; "Harold Hersey: Tales of an Ink-Stained Wretch," the first comprehensive biography of pulp publishing's most colorful character; author biographies; and more.
