Sketches of the Missions of the American Board is a book written by Samuel Colcord Bartlett and published in 1872. The book is a detailed account of the various missionary activities undertaken by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in different parts of the world. Bartlett, who was himself a missionary and a member of the American Board, provides a firsthand account of the challenges and triumphs of the missions. He describes the work of the missionaries in places such as India, China, Turkey, and Africa, and provides insights into the social, cultural, and religious contexts in which they operated. The book is divided into chapters that focus on specific missions, and each chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the work carried out by the missionaries in that area. Bartlett also discusses the impact of the missions on the local communities, and the ways in which the missionaries were able to adapt to the different cultural and religious practices of the people they were serving. Overall, Sketches of the Missions of the American Board is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Christian missions and the role of American missionaries in spreading Christianity around the world. It provides a fascinating glimpse into the challenges and rewards of missionary work in the 19th century, and sheds light on the complex interactions between different cultures and religions during this period. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
