""The Loves of Chaereas and Callirrhoe"" is a novel written by Chariton in the 1st century AD. The story is set in Syracuse, Sicily, and follows the love story of Chaereas, a young Athenian, and Callirrhoe, a beautiful Syracusean. The two fall madly in love, but their relationship is tested when Callirrhoe is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Chaereas embarks on a journey to find her and rescue her, facing many obstacles and challenges along the way. The novel is a classic example of ancient Greek romance literature, and explores themes of love, jealousy, betrayal, and loyalty. This edition of the book was published in 1764 and includes an introduction and notes by translator Francis Hickes. In Two Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
