Sincerity and Subscription: A Plea for Toleration in the Church of England is a book written by Herbert Hensley Henson and published in 1903. The book is a call for tolerance within the Church of England, particularly in regards to the issue of subscription to the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion.Henson argues that the requirement of subscription to the Articles is outdated and unnecessary, and that it places an unfair burden on clergy and laypeople who may hold differing views on certain theological issues. He also asserts that the Church should be more open to diversity of thought and belief, and that it should not be so quick to label those who disagree with its teachings as heretics or schismatics.Throughout the book, Henson draws on historical examples and theological arguments to support his case for tolerance and understanding. He also addresses some of the practical concerns that arise from a more open and inclusive Church, such as how to maintain unity and cohesion in the face of differing beliefs and practices.Overall, Sincerity and Subscription is a thought-provoking and timely work that challenges readers to consider the role of tolerance and diversity in the Church of England, and to question the assumptions and traditions that may be holding it back from fully embracing these values. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
