News Poems is a collection of poems written by Richard George Thomas Coventry and published in 1908. The book is a compilation of poems that were inspired by current events and news stories of the time. The poems cover a wide range of topics, including politics, war, social issues, and natural disasters. The collection is divided into three parts, each containing several poems. The first part focuses on political events and includes poems about the Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Irish Home Rule Bill. The second part covers social issues, with poems about poverty, homelessness, and the struggles of working-class people. The final part deals with natural disasters, including a poem about the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.Coventry's writing style is characterized by its simplicity and directness. He uses clear and concise language to convey his thoughts and emotions about the events he describes. The poems are often critical of the government and society, and they offer a commentary on the injustices and inequalities of the time.Overall, News Poems is a powerful and thought-provoking collection that provides a unique insight into the social and political issues of the early 20th century. The book is a testament to Coventry's talent as a poet and his commitment to using his writing to make a difference in the world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
