""The Growth Of A Legend"" is a historical study by Fernand Van Langenhove that examines the German accounts of the Francs-Tireurs and atrocities committed in Belgium during World War I. The book delves into the origins and development of the Francs-Tireurs, a group of irregular French soldiers who engaged in guerrilla warfare against the German army in Belgium. The author analyzes the German propaganda that portrayed the Francs-Tireurs as ruthless and barbaric, and the impact this had on the German soldiers' behavior towards Belgian civilians. The book also explores the atrocities committed by both sides during the war, and the way in which these events were reported and interpreted by the media and public opinion. Van Langenhove draws on a range of primary sources, including German military reports, Belgian newspapers, and eyewitness accounts, to examine how the myth of the Francs-Tireurs and the atrocities in Belgium became part of the larger narrative of the war. Overall, ""The Growth Of A Legend"" provides a detailed and nuanced analysis of the complex historical events surrounding the Francs-Tireurs and the atrocities in Belgium during World War I, shedding light on the ways in which propaganda and myth-making can shape our understanding of history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
