Dr. Sevier is a novel written by George Washington Cable. It tells the story of a young physician named Gaston Sevier who moves to a small southern town in Louisiana after the Civil War. Despite facing many challenges and prejudices, Dr. Sevier is determined to help the people of the town and provide them with proper medical care. Along the way, he becomes involved in the lives of several families, including the wealthy and influential Villars, the poor and hardworking Le Mä¿¿¿¿tres, and the mixed-race Duponts. Dr. Sevier's efforts to bridge the racial and social divides in the town are met with resistance, and he must navigate through a complex web of relationships and conflicts to achieve his goals. The novel explores themes of race, class, and identity in the post-Civil War South, and offers a poignant and insightful portrayal of a time and place in American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
