This book, written by Joseph B. Mayor, is titled ""Virgil's Messianic Eclogue: Its Meaning, Occasion and Sources, Three Studies"". The book is a detailed analysis of the famous Roman poet Virgil's work, specifically his Eclogue, which is believed to have prophesied the coming of a savior or messiah. The book is divided into three studies, each of which delves into a different aspect of Virgil's Eclogue. The first study focuses on the meaning of the Eclogue and its significance in the context of Virgil's other works. The second study examines the occasion for the composition of the Eclogue and the historical and cultural context in which it was written. The third and final study explores the sources of the Eclogue and the possible influences on Virgil's writing. Mayor draws on a range of literary and historical sources to support his analysis, including the Bible and other ancient texts. Overall, the book provides a comprehensive and scholarly examination of Virgil's Eclogue, shedding light on its meaning and significance both in its own time and in later periods of literary and cultural history. It will be of interest to scholars and students of classical literature, as well as anyone interested in the history of prophecy and messianic beliefs. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
