William Jones: Indian, Cowboy, American Scholar and Anthropologist in the Field is a book written by Henry Milner Rideout. It is a biography of William Jones, who was an Indian, cowboy, and an American scholar and anthropologist. The book provides a detailed account of Jones' life, from his childhood as a member of the Winnebago tribe in Nebraska to his career as a scholar and anthropologist. The book explores Jones' unique perspective as an Indian who was also deeply immersed in American culture. Jones was a cowboy in his youth, and the book describes his experiences working on ranches in the American West. It also delves into his academic career, which began when he enrolled in the University of Nebraska at the age of 27.Jones went on to become a prominent scholar and anthropologist, and the book explores his contributions to the field. He was particularly interested in the study of Native American languages, and he made significant contributions to the documentation and preservation of these languages.Overall, William Jones: Indian, Cowboy, American Scholar and Anthropologist in the Field is a fascinating look at the life of a remarkable individual who bridged the gap between two cultures. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the American West, Native American culture, or the field of anthropology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
