Characters and Criticisms: A Book of Miscellanies is a collection of essays and reviews written by James Hannay and published in 1865. The book includes a wide range of topics, from literary criticism to political commentary, and covers both contemporary and historical figures. Hannay's writing style is witty and engaging, and his insights into the personalities and works of the people he discusses are often illuminating. Among the subjects covered in the book are Shakespeare, Byron, Dickens, and Thackeray, as well as lesser-known writers and politicians. Hannay's opinions are often controversial, and he is not afraid to express his dislike of certain authors or political figures. Overall, Characters and Criticisms is a fascinating look at the literary and cultural landscape of the mid-19th century, as seen through the eyes of a sharp and perceptive writer. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
