""Citizenship In School And Out: The First Six Years Of School Life"" is a book written by Arthur William Dunn and published in 1919. The book explores the concept of citizenship and how it can be taught in schools to children in their early years of education. Dunn argues that citizenship is not just about obeying laws and rules, but also about developing a sense of responsibility, respect, and empathy towards others. The book is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the role of the school in teaching citizenship, while the second part looks at how citizenship can be learned outside of school. In the first part, Dunn discusses the importance of creating a positive school environment where children feel safe, respected, and valued. He also emphasizes the need for teachers to model good citizenship behavior and to provide opportunities for students to practice citizenship skills. In the second part, Dunn explores how parents, community organizations, and other institutions can help children develop citizenship skills outside of school. He argues that children need to be exposed to a variety of experiences and perspectives in order to develop a broad understanding of the world around them. He also emphasizes the importance of parents and other adults in modeling good citizenship behavior and providing guidance and support to children.Overall, ""Citizenship In School And Out"" is a thought-provoking book that offers practical advice and insights on how to teach children about citizenship. It is a valuable resource for educators, parents, and anyone interested in promoting responsible and engaged citizenship in young people. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
