The Mane Event

The Mane Event can be read on its own, but it's more fun if you know the books preceeding it. That would be the Magnus Pack-series, which introduces some of characters (the titles are: Pack Challenge, Go fetch!, Here, kitty, kitty!, and Miss Congeniality in the anthology 'When he was bad'). Tha Mane Event itself is the first in the 'Pride Stories'. Up to now, there are 'The beast in him' and 'The Mane attraction'. There are actually two stories in this book: CHRISTMAS PRIDE Lion-shifter Mace Llewellyn has known that he wants Desiree 'Dez' MacDermot since they were kids, but his family never accepted her since she's a full human. So when she moved away, they lost contact. But now he's back from the military and determined to have Dez, who has become a cop. Things are again made difficult by his family, but what's worse is that shifters are after his pride and have already killed one of his sister's mates. As Mace and Dez finally give in to their mutual attraction it's up to them to solve the case and save the Llewellyn-pride... SHAW'S TAIL Lion-shifter Brendon Shaw has barely survived the conflict between different shifter packs in 'Christmas Pride'. Although he's severely injured his pride leaves him alone in the hospital, and the only person who bothers to take care of him is Ronnie, a wolf-shifter. Despite their different species, their attraction is strong. But can a wolf and lion really have a future together? Both short novels are mostly about erotic attraction and a strong sense of humour, which isn't as biting as in the Magnus Pack-books, mostly because the female characters are nicer. That should make the book more acessible for a lot of readers. There is a plot involving crime and conflicts between the different groups of shifters, but the books are really more about the erotic romance aspect and laughter. As such, I found them entertaining and fun. I was reminded of MaryJanice Davidson's early stories, e. g. the Wyndham werewolves-novellas. Don't expect anything demanding / high literature, but if you want to just relax and have fun, Laurenston is worth a try.
