Good but sometimes harsh start of a series

S. Fischer am 18.11.2009

Bewertungsnummer: 617491

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

The Vikings have been raiding the British Isles, so Brenna's English father decides to arrange a marriage to a Viking, Garrick, to protect their home. This is difficult for her because she loves fighting and dressing like a man, so being married off to a stranger poses a lot of problems. But things get a lot worse: Garrick's father hates the English and only promised the marriage so he could find and attack Brenna's wealthy home. After killing, raping and plundering - and beating Brenna in a swordfight - he takes her to the Norselands not as a wife but a slave for his son. And Garrick, who didn't know anything about this since he was trading in the East, is less than pleased since he doesn't like or trust women after a cruel betrayal. He takes Brenna as his lover, but keeps treating her as a slave. But proud and strong Brenna can't accept that... This is a fine romance, intense and with a convincing cultural background. Because of that it is often harsh (there are rapes, for example), so it may not be for everyone. There are two more titles, 'Hearts aflame' and 'Surrender my love', which are about other members of this Viking family. I'd say those were better than this one, but still find that this is a really good romance novel.
