The Bacchae of Euripides is a play that was originally written in ancient Greek and has been translated into English. This particular edition, published in 1871, features a revised version of the text along with a detailed commentary. The play tells the story of the god Dionysus, who seeks revenge on the city of Thebes for denying his divinity. He appears in the guise of a mortal and convinces the women of the city to worship him, leading to chaos and violence. The play explores themes of religion, power, and gender roles, and has been widely studied and performed throughout history. The commentary in this edition provides historical context, literary analysis, and explanations of the play's themes and symbols. It is a valuable resource for students and scholars of ancient Greek literature and drama. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
