The book covers Smith's early life, his military career, and his experiences in India, South Africa, and Europe. Smith was involved in several significant battles, including the Battle of Aliwal during the First Anglo-Sikh War, and he also served as governor of the Cape Colony in South Africa. The book provides a detailed and personal account of Smith's life, including his relationships with other military figures and his experiences of war. It also offers insights into the social and political context of the time, particularly in relation to British imperialism and the conflicts that arose as a result. Overall, The Autobiography of Lieutenant-General Sir Harry Smith, Baronet of Aliwal on the Sutlej is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in military history, colonialism, and the experiences of individuals who lived through significant historical events. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
