The Blennerhassett Papers is a book that presents the private journal of Harman Blennerhassett, an Irish-born lawyer and planter who became embroiled in a political scandal in the early 19th century. The book is a collection of Blennerhassett's personal writings and letters, edited and annotated by historian William Henry Safford. The journal covers a period of about ten years, from 1796 to 1806, and provides a detailed account of Blennerhassett's life and activities during that time. It includes descriptions of his travels, his business dealings, his social and political connections, and his personal thoughts and reflections. The book also sheds light on the events that led to Blennerhassett's downfall, namely his involvement in a conspiracy to establish a separate nation in the western United States. The conspiracy, known as the Burr conspiracy after its leader, former Vice President Aaron Burr, ultimately failed, and Blennerhassett was arrested and charged with treason.Overall, The Blennerhassett Papers offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of an intriguing historical figure, and provides valuable insights into the political and social climate of early 19th century America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
