The book ""The Refugees From Slavery In Canada West: Report To The Freedmen¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s Inquiry Commission"" by S. G. Howe is a comprehensive report on the experiences of former slaves who migrated to Canada West (now Ontario) in the mid-19th century. The book is a report submitted to the Freedmen¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s Inquiry Commission, a government agency established during the American Civil War to investigate the conditions of newly freed slaves and refugees from slavery. The report provides a detailed account of the lives of the refugees, including their reasons for leaving the United States, their journey to Canada, and their experiences upon arrival. It also discusses the social and economic conditions of Canada West, including the availability of land, education, and employment opportunities for the refugees. The author, S. G. Howe, was a prominent abolitionist and social reformer who played a key role in the Underground Railroad. He draws on his firsthand knowledge of the refugees and his experience in the anti-slavery movement to provide a nuanced and insightful analysis of their experiences.Overall, ""The Refugees From Slavery In Canada West: Report To The Freedmen¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s Inquiry Commission"" is a valuable historical document that sheds light on an important chapter in the history of slavery and freedom in North America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
