""Erichthonius And The Three Daughters Of Cecrops"" is a book written by Benjamin Powell that tells the story of Erichthonius, the legendary king of Athens, and his relationship with the three daughters of Cecrops, the founder of Athens. The book is based on Greek mythology and explores the themes of love, jealousy, and power. The story begins with the birth of Erichthonius, who was born from the earth after Hephaestus, the god of fire, tried to rape Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Athena then took the child and raised him as her own. Erichthonius grew up to become a great king and was loved by his people. However, his peaceful reign was threatened when the three daughters of Cecrops, Aglauros, Herse, and Pandrosos, became jealous of each other's beauty and sought the love of Erichthonius. The book follows the three sisters as they try to win the affection of the king, but their actions lead to jealousy, betrayal, and tragedy.Through the story of Erichthonius and the three daughters of Cecrops, Powell explores the complex relationships between men and women, the struggle for power and control, and the consequences of jealousy and envy. The book is filled with vivid descriptions of ancient Greece and its mythology, making it a fascinating read for anyone interested in Greek history and culture. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
