""Essays On The Theory Of Numbers"" is a book written by Richard Dedekind, a German mathematician who is known for his contributions to the field of algebra and number theory. The book is a collection of essays that explore various topics related to number theory, including the theory of algebraic numbers, the theory of ideals, and the theory of quadratic forms. The book begins with an introduction to the theory of algebraic numbers, which is a branch of number theory that deals with the properties of numbers that are solutions to algebraic equations. Dedekind then goes on to discuss the theory of ideals, which is a concept he introduced to algebraic number theory. The theory of ideals provides a way to study the properties of algebraic numbers by considering the properties of the ideals that generate them. The book also includes an essay on the theory of quadratic forms, which is a branch of number theory that deals with the properties of quadratic equations. Dedekind's essay on this topic provides a thorough exploration of the properties of quadratic forms and their applications in number theory. Overall, ""Essays On The Theory Of Numbers"" is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of various topics related to number theory. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the field of mathematics and the study of numbers.I. Continuity and Irrational Numbers. II. The Nature and Meaning of Numbers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
