The Story of the Glittering Plain is a novel written by the renowned British author and artist William Morris. It is a fantasy story set in an imaginary kingdom called Starkadland, which is ruled by a cruel and oppressive king. The protagonist of the story is a young man named Hallblithe, who is on a quest to find the Glittering Plain, a legendary land of happiness and prosperity.Hallblithe sets out on his journey with a group of companions, including a wise old man named Ralph, a beautiful maiden named Elfhild, and a fierce warrior named Hallmund. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and challenges, including battles with monsters and treacherous terrain. They also meet a mysterious woman named the Lady of Abundance, who offers to help them in their quest. As they journey deeper into the heart of Starkadland, Hallblithe and his companions must confront their own fears and weaknesses, and learn to work together as a team. Eventually, they reach the Glittering Plain, where they discover a paradise-like land of peace and abundance. However, their joy is short-lived, as they soon learn that the king of Starkadland is determined to destroy the Glittering Plain and all who live there. The Story of the Glittering Plain is a classic tale of adventure, romance, and heroism, written in Morris's signature style of lush, poetic prose. It is a timeless story that has captivated readers for generations, and remains a beloved work of fantasy literature to this day.""Drink, O black-fledged nestling! But call a health over the cup if thou wilt."" So Hallblithe raised the cup aloft and cried: ""Health to the House of the Raven and to them that love it! an ill day to its foemen!"" Then he set his lips to the cup and drank; and that wine seemed to him better and stronger than any he had ever tasted. But when he had given the cup back again to Fox, that red one filled it again, and cried over it.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
